Privacy Policy

At the moment the 中文-App does not save or transmit any private user data.

It does, however, locally store the search match history, including timestamps of the lookup date, as well as information about vocabulary training. These stored information can be viewed in the main menu item 'training center' and its submenus.

The Internet connectivity is solely used to receive third party content and data to display to the user.

If this policy shall be subject to changes one day, there will be a notification about the update shown to the user when starting the app.

App Permissions

Currently the 中文-App requires following permissions for full functionality:

• Webcam: This permission is required when using the OCR feature (Scan images and photos for text). The app offers to directly capture a new photo and scan for chinese characters.
• Microphone: The app actually doesn't access the microphone capacity. This permission has to be included for capturing photos in the above scenario (this is a Microsoft-side policy).
• Internet: This permission is required throughout different functions in the app, e.g. Draw Input, Online Translation, Hanzi Detail Information, Articles and some others. If the internet permission is not set or internet is not available, the app still works with limited functionality, e.g. offline translations and training center. It is also possible to turn off internet usage in the app's settings.
• Photo Library: This permission is required when using the OCR feature (Scan images and photos for text). The app offers to open photos or pictures from the library and scan for chinese characters.
